Giant white sturgeon on the Fraser River

The Fraser is almost 900 miles long, easily the largest river in British Columbia. Literally millions of Pacific salmon run this river, too many to make fishing for them sporting. But they do form a massively plentiful food supply for one of the world’s biggest freshwater fish – the great white sturgeon.

The river record stands at 1376 pounds, caught may years ago, but 1000 pound fish are certainly there to be caught.
Our partners here are Cascade Charters, with whom we have worked for many years. Marc Laynes and his associate guides are true professionals, who play a leading role in sturgeon conservation, and help clients find those giant fish.

Imagine hooking a 100 pound fish and seeing it leap completely clear of the water before taking you and your boat half a mile downstream on its first run. That’s sturgeon fishing. You can expect good fishing from about March through to November. Generally, fish are smaller early in the year, say from 40 to 100 pounds, with the biggest fish usually taken in autumn.

Clients may stay in a hotel in nearby Chilliwack, being collected each day by their guide, or (new for 2005) in Marc and Maggie Laynes guest house right on the river.
