The mighty mahseer

These powerful fish, which grow to over 100 pounds, are an irresistible attraction to anglers who enjoy aggressive sport. Once widespread in the rivers of the sub-continent, their distribution has diminished in recent times, but we have access to some famous stretches of the Cauvery River where mahseer still dominate.

As a rule, there is one highly experienced local guide for every two anglers; Those joining Peter Smith’s escorted and guided trip will have the further benefit of his vast knowledge of mahseer fishing.

The Cauvery is a rich river, holding many other species including carp and catfish.

Ground arrangements are managed by our local agents Bushbetta who have set up a superb camp in the spectacular scenery of a wildlife reserve.

This holiday provides a unique experience, from the absolutely frantic bustle of city life to the tranquillity of the fishing camp.
